Later, he moved with his family to the port town of La Ciotat where he mainly painted landscapes, still life compositions, and Jewish themes. Ascher exhibited at the Salon d'Automne of 1933. In 1943, he was arrested and sent to the concentration camp of Gurs. Most of his work has since disappeared.
